WHAT TO BRING:
Waterfowlers are a select group of dedicated people who spend a great deal of time weather watching, searching for the perfect conditions. Be it wind, cloud cover, snow, temperature, moon phases, finding any little edge they can.Habits, migration, feeding, and flight patterns of Ducks and Geese are often directly determined by the weather and weather changes. This habit will not only give you the edge it will also help you prepare your gear for the hunt.We recommend checking the weather report at least the night before your hunt so you can dress to be comfortable.Waterproof camo for waterfowling is generally recommended.Bright colors, oranges, reds should be avoided in your hats, jackets and gloves. You can always give us a call at 1-877-466-7557 to get the report and the zip code to enter into the Weather Channel is 55901 for the Rochester area. Now that we have a license and comfortable camo you will need a plugged firearm,we always recommend you bring the firearm you are most comfortable and confident with.We gun our birds from heated pits, boats and brushed blinds and all shooting is at decoying birds generally no further than 40 yards and often much less,no pass shooting. We suggest that you pattern you gun using various chokes and shotsizes to achieve the best pattern for your firearm,at these ranges. At a glance modified or improved cylinders with 1's,2's or BB's are usually the ticket. Now you are licensed, dressed, armed, yet no hunt is complete without coffee and doughnuts.Whatever your preference for food and drink,Deer sausage and Goose jerky are my favorites in the blind, Alcoholic beverages should be chilling in your cooler out of the field for a post hunt celebration.Cooking breakfast in the pit is always an added bonus, the aroma of eggs and sausage cooking permeating the the air always enhances the experience.
We are now left with Calls and Retrievers. We encourage your participation in the fine art of making lifelike Goose or Duck music along with the leadership of your expert guide. One of the key components to any Waterfowl hunt is sharing the field with a good working retriever. If your dog hunts, bring it along.Should there be multiple eager retrievers in the field on a given day we will do our best to give each companion the chance to strut their stuff.Any hunting adventure is a team effort, and every sucessful team has a leader. When it comes to flagging, calling, gunning, and retrieving your guide will function as your team leader.Last and often most important two items to include on your list are to bring your best hunting stories, and related jokes to share, and an awareness of safety always knowing all other hunters and retrievers position in the field at all times. We look forward to hunting with you.
